A specialist packaging agency seeks a DTP Operator, known internally as a Brand Mapper.

The brand mapper bridges the gap between the creative and finished art (FA) teams. 

Key responsibilities (including, but not limited to the below):

  • Check that artwork received from the design team is approved, consistent, error-free and ready for the FA process
  • Confirm a full understanding of the brand architecture before commencing on any project
  • Ensure the possession of a client approved concept
  • Ensure the possession of a complete brief with all information required, including specs
  • At this stage, ensure the following:
    • All legislation is in order, eg. GDA, trademarks and other important symbols
    • Barcodes have been correctly supplied and applied
    • Colours and die-lines are correct as per specs given
  • Ensure the priority SKU is correctly mapped to save time and potential reverts on all follow-up SKUs
  • Thereafter ensure the balance of SKUs, per segment, are mapped with the same principles
  • Check that all typography is correct, including minimum font sizes
  • Anticipate problems and facilitate effective resolutions 
  • Drive a user-friendly, consistent process to help avoid changes at FA stage
  • Collate reverts to be presented to client for back referencing on changes and internal proofing       
  • Ensure the agency has final proofs, physically signed by client
  • Ensure that all completed artworks are accurately collected for output and accepted in good working order by the finished artist

Minimum requirements:

  • 5-10 years of full DTP knowledge
  • Technical and procedural knowledge in marketing, packaging and branding
  • Detailed experience working with complex die-lines
  • Working knowledge of relevant print processes ie. Chromalin, Flexo, Litho, Gravure, Digital etc
  • Working knowledge of various stocks and substrates eg. polyprop, carton, direct print onto plastic, tin plate etc     
  • Working knowledge of special finishes eg. varnishes, foils, embossing
  • Familiarity with/strong ability to grasp packaging legislation
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong sense of accountability and responsibility for a variety of projects
  • Ability to guide client on technical issues and interact with printers
  • Strong ability to multitask and stay focused
  • Excellent time management skills

  • Customer-centric approach

Salary: R25 - 30 000
