We have a stunning and exciting opportunity within the cutting-edge banking industry for a senior Marketing Manager. We’re looking for someone dynamic with presence and the ability to liaise with senior individuals on a daily basis. As such you need to have proven senior management experience, operating at a strategic level. Solid Banking/Credit experience and a solid understanding of the financial services industry are essential. The role will see the successful candidate working with the Marketing and Communications team to recommend and track the brand’s Marketing Strategy, ensuring that it is aligned to and reflects the overall Business and Marketing objectives, supporting both current and future needs of the organisation. You will manage cross functional relationships within the Marketing and Corporate Affairs department, the Bank and external stakeholders to ensure that the implementation of the Credit Marketing Strategy is consistent with the needs of the client, effectively promoting the Brand and increasing market share.

Key performance areas include the provision of Marketing expertise within Marketing environment, supporting Brand Marketing, the Marketing and Corporate Affairs Department and the organisation with respect to the Credit product offering; internal and external relationship management as well as strategic and operational management of credit marketing; proactively engaging and influencing key stakeholders in projects in order to ensure all delivered outputs are consumer centric and aligned to the brand. You will also be responsible for ensuring accuracy and legal compliance, meeting budget requirements and adhering to strict timelines for assigned programs. You will lead creative production and execution credit marketing campaigns and artwork as well as doing reporting.



  • Be aware of and comply with the legislative requirements relative to banking industry.
  • Operate within the rules of the following regulatory and industry bodies: Advertising Standards Authority, South African Reserve Bank (SARB), Financial Services Board (FSB), Banking Association of South Africa (BASA), The South African Insurance Association (SAIA)
  • Liaise with external service providers: Advertising agencies, Media agencies, Suppliers (MasterCard and other)
  • Operate within the Bank’s policies and procedures
  • Ensure the internal sign off process for marketing material is followed
  • Influence other Heads within the marketing and business environments
  • Liaises with most departments of the bank (for internal marketing and training) and specifically the following; Marketing and Corporate Affairs, IT and Innovation, Business Development (IT and Innovation), Human Resources (Learning & Development Recruitment), Risk Management (Legal), Financial Management, Compliance, BSC and Card Services
  • Act as a contributing member of the marketing senior management team
  • Provide and apply expert marketing knowledge and expertise within the Marketing – Credit function, Brand Marketing, the Marketing and Corporate Affairs Department and the bank.

  • Manage & prioritise the Bank’s philosophy and vision and ensure these are portrayed through the brand as it evolves and changes.

  • Regularly reappraise all the marketing tools in the bank to ensure it remains competitive

  • Influence senior executives regarding the importance of ensuring a consistent brand message and delivery of product and service and the maximum exposure of the brand
  • Ensure all sales strategies are aligned with the overall marketing strategy via relationships with the senior operational executives.

  • Interpret market knowledge by defining industry strengths and weaknesses, identify and recommend product and service strategies to take advantage of competitor positions and deliver the business objectives
  • Define the Marketing strategy for Credit products through all channels and ensure consistent execution within the channels
  • Prioritise the key messaging and differentiation elements across all engagement channels

  • Work with innovation team to best package these products and services
  • Use client insights to predict future requirements on current product offerings with the view of improving their experience through the various delivery channels
  • Quality assure all products before distribution and also the look, feel and tonality foam, website, mobile banking, in branch experience and contact centre
  • Influence the recruitment criteria in line with brand
  • Provide input to learning and development content for new staff on boarding
  • Define the sales process and “feature and benefit integration” into the sales process for physical and remote client interfaces.
  • Define the design, experience and information support of the client interaction process for branch and remote client interfaces
  • Partner with Department Head in identifying, implementing and managing appropriate product and media partnerships to drive revenue growth and market penetration for credit
  • Proactively manage and influence key stakeholders in projects to ensure deliverables are consumer centric and aligned to the brand.

The successful candidate must have/be:

  • A relevant 3-year Degree in Marketing Management (BComm Marketing Management or similar) gained at a credible tertiary institution
  • A post-graduate degree in Marketing Management – would be ideal
  • MBA – would be ideal
  • 8 -10 years’ experience in Marketing and Communications at national level within the retail, FMCG, banking or services industry.
  • 3 years’ experience in managing a team of Marketing specialists / Corporate Marketing function
  • Strong experience in Banking, Financial / Insurance sectors
  • Proven senior management experience, operating at a strategic level
  • Presence and be comfortable to liaise with senior individuals’ daily
  • Knowledge of the service industry or Consumer products/ industry
  • Knowledge of the structuring and management of a corporate marketing function
  • Strategic marketing capabilities
  • Detailed understanding of the philosophy of branding and its practical application in a corporate context
  • Knowledge of the categories and features of the different types of media and their application in a corporate context
  • Trade and/or sales environment and understanding of both client and merchant (B2C and B2B)
  • Banking and financial products or services – a plus
