We have a terrific opportunity for a mid-weight Marketing Manager: Intelligence and Strategy at a leading graduate school in Cape Town. The institution’s Business Development Team is looking for someone experienced to establish and deliver the marketing and communications strategy in order to accurately portray the brand and achieve the required market growth. In supporting the institution’s vision and mission, the Business Development Unit identifies and builds sustainable relationships in the corporate and public sectors to promote Executive Education and Academic programmes (such as the MBA) that are dynamic and promote the best interests of the client/s and the school itself. This exciting position requires a thorough understanding of the brand strategy and the ability to articulate this into the marketing strategies that optimally position the offerings. This role will see you reporting to the Director of the Business Development Unit.



  • Providing Marketing expertise and proactively focusing on and responding to the market, anticipating trends and changes that affect the institution’s work
  • Gathering, interpreting, analysing and disseminating market intelligence that drives sales volumes
  • Ensuring that all market related activities add value and are measured to achieve the desired return on investment
  • Identifying the appropriate target markets and then effectively utilising the marketing mix to achieve the institution and its Business Development Unit’s objectives
  • Formulating and executing the following strategies in line with the market requirements and the vision:
    • Marketing and Communication strategy for each of the programmes; the offerings and the overall brand
    • Events strategy
    • International student recruitment strategy
    • Internal marketing and communications strategy
  • Taking into account product, market and competitor information and then translating these strategies into annual plans
  • Formulating, executing and communicating the creative, media (including digital) and visual strategy which enforces the institution’s status. This includes ensuring efficient and effective media buying that reflects the brand
  • Building strategic partnerships and effectively managing stakeholder relationships
  • Working cross-functionally to understand and integrate marketing requirements into the marketing strategy
  • Effectively managing the execution of agreements with marketing service providers to ensure the achievement of the agreed deliverables
  • Inspiring, leading, managing the marketing function and team
  • Effective financial, budget and administration preparation and control
  • Providing back up support within the Business Development Team as required
  • Contributing to building the culture through incorporating


The successful candidate must have/be:

  • A Postgraduate Marketing and/or Business Degree (an MBA or equivalent would be advantageous)
  • At least 5 years’ experience operating in a Marketing position at a management level
  • Experience that includes market research and intelligence gathering, staff, budget and resource management
  • Proven ability to devise and implement successful strategies to drive business growth
  • An understanding of the international and national context within which business schools operate
  • Proven leadership ability operating successfully at a management level
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of developing value propositions
  • Self-sufficiency with strong creative judgment and the ability to drive results across teams
  • A successful track record of building and managing relationships with internal and external partners to achieve strategic objectives
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills
  • A willingness to travel nationally and internationally (as appropriate) and work evenings and weekends as required
  • An ability to organise and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
