Purpose of the role:  

Graphic designers produce design solutions to communicate their clients’ messages with high visual impact. Graphic design solutions are required for a huge variety of products and activities, such as websites, TouchScreen applications, Flash applications, computer games, digital exhibitions and displays to name but a few. A thorough understanding & the development of corporate communications and corporate identity is integral to the process e.g. giving organizations a visual ‘brand. Working to a brief agreed with the client or account manager, a graphic designer develops creative ideas and concepts, choosing the appropriate media and style to meet the client’s objectives. The work demands creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of industry software and a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meeting the creative directors, clients or account managers to discuss the business objectives and requirements of the job
  • Interpreting the creative directors & client’s business needs and developing a concept to suit their purpose
  • Estimating the time required to complete the work to provide accurate quotes for clients
  • Developing design briefs by gathering information and data through research
  • Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts
  • Thorough understanding of communication practices including usability & graphic interface design
  • Using innovation to redefine a design brief within the constraints of cost and time
  • Presenting finalized ideas and concepts to creative directors clients or account managers
  • Working with a wide range of media, including raw video or photography using a variety of graphic design & animation software
  • Proofreading to produce accurate and high-quality work
  • Contributing ideas and design artwork to the overall brief
  • Demonstrating illustrative skills with rough sketches
  • Keeping abreast of emerging technologies in new media, particularly design programmes such as Illustrator, Photoshop, 3D programs, Acrobat, and Flash
  • Working as part of a team with creative directors, copywriters, photographers, other designers, account executives, developers and marketing specialist
        Creative:
  • Work with Creative Director to establish the art/design direction of all projects
  • Monitor the conceptual/visual evolution of product and application development
  • Ensure that the highest creative and design standards are met
  • Brand and CI custodian/gatekeeper on all interactive projects
  • Implement brand and communication strategy through design
  • Prepare and present your own creative solutions as well as your team’s

      Production:

  • Design production from concept through to implementation
  • Assist where appropriate in pitches and client presentations
  • Deliver on design solutions for applications and templates in order to feed into your design team
  • Overall accountability for performance of the designers in your team
  • Develop, communicate and maintain strict design guidelines and consistency standards
  • Work closely with your team to build visually striking marketing communications
  • Assume a mentorship role to grow junior designers
  • Assist and contribute toward regular creative team meetings
  • Manage a variety of projects simultaneously
  • Initiate brainstorming sessions and other planning activities with your team
  • Liaise with technical managers and other members of the technical team
  • Explore value-adds and advise on relevant technologies
  • Industry networking 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Degree or Diploma Design

        (or a degree in communication/design / fine art etc. that shows competent visual skills)

  • Minimum years experience: 0 – 1+ years 
  • A sound knowledge of the relevant structures and processes in the agency
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Confident communication skills

Computer literacy:

  • MS Word
  • MS PowerPoint or Keynote
