We have a very exciting job opportunity for an experienced, mid-weight Fundraising Specialist at a wonderful conservation foundation based in Stellenbosch, working both remotely and in-office. In the role of Fundraiser, you are required to mobilise resources (both financial and in kind) to enable sustainable impact. This is done through developing networks of donors and partners and providing technical expertise. The service offering includes identifying opportunities aligned to priority needs, raising awareness, crafting proposals/applications, writing concise and informative reports, and acting as donor liaison/relationship manager. Responsibilities

Strategic Impact

  • Identify opportunities aligned with strategic needs of the organisation
  • Look for opportunities based on research and in collaboration with key internal stakeholders
  • Develop a concept that speaks to the opportunity
  • Review the concept with key internal and external stakeholders

Operational and process effectiveness

  • Mobilise resources to produce sustainable impact
  • Develop a full proposal/campaign in line with donor criteria and organisational requirements
  • Coordinate finalisation and signing of grant or other agreements
  • Coordinate project inception meetings
  • Monitor and report in line with contractual obligations

Stakeholder management

  • Manage donor relationship and key stakeholders
  • Grow relationship with existing donors and expand support from key strategic donors
  • Partner with other organisations and align expertise to strengthen projects
  • Conduct joint fundraising with other organisations and NGOs
  • Develop strong internal relationship with key project teams

People Growth

  • Lead and pro-actively coach key stakeholders on the organisation’s approach to mobilise resources to achieve sustainable impact
  • Provide direction, expertise and leadership to project managers in field to equip them to understand grant commitments and donor expectations
  • Drive communication and feedback at all levels to align with the strategic focus of the organisation to meet its core objectives
  • Develop and grow functional and leadership skills to stay future fit and relevant for the changing needs of the organisation.

Requirements
The successful candidate must have/be:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in one of the Social Sciences/ Communications or similar
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in fundraising
  • Full understanding of fundraising best practices and a track record in successful fundraising
  • Knowledge of and experience in monitoring, evaluation and learning, including developing Theories of Change and logical frameworks
  • The ability to write clear, compelling, concept notes and proposals
  • The ability to collate information from disparate sources to provide timely and impactful donor reports, which requires an ability to build relationships with staff in remote areas
  • A firm grasp of research and analysis
  • An understanding of the potential of the various communication channels/platforms and the necessity to engage closely with the organisation’s Communications team
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills (English)
  • An ability to work under pressure and honour deadlines
  • An ability to travel as required
  • A specific qualification in fundraising (certificate/diploma) – a plus
  • Experience in project planning – advantageous
  • Advanced computer skills, including Excel- advantageous
  • Ability to create infographics/dashboards using tools such as Power BI – advantageous
  • An existing network of contacts – advantageous.
