We have a fantastic job opportunity for a creative and talented mid-weight Writer at a ground-breaking visual studio in Cape Town. The company conceptualises, produces and commercialises engaging products and communications solutions for local and international brands. Their clients are diverse, ranging from the mining, retail and fishing industry to NPOs. We are looking for a dynamic and energetic mid-level writer to manage the scripting process from concept to completion for corporate communication and entertainment products. You will be writing scripts for comics and motion graphics, social media and newsletter content. As such, you’ll need experience in these fields. The writer works alongside a team of client service consultants, illustrators, designers, art directors and post- production. As the scope of the work varies, the writer needs to be versatile and able to work on a range of products and subject matter. The position is time and creativity intensive, which is why it’s important that you are a dedicated, hard-working individual.

  • Attends briefing sessions and occasional meetings with client to better understand the objectives of the content being produced
  • During brainstorm and review meetings the writer will offer creative input and record all creative direction from the team before briefing the script or edits into studio
  • Scripts are reviewed and refined before production, but the writer will follow the project’s creative development throughout and continue to give input on the work being produced
  • Provide feedback and updates to ensure that all project objectives are being adhered to.

The successful candidate must have/be:

  • A tertiary qualification in a related field
  • Comfortable with a range of writing types (from story and script to copywriting)
  • A good understanding of narrative structure, character and dialogue
  • High level of visual literacy is essential
  • Able to research independently and extract core information from detailed texts
  • Good interpersonal and workshopping skills
  • Able to work well with others as well as independently
  • Meticulous attention to detail and thoroughness, including strong grammar and spelling
  • In touch with popular culture
  • Excellent general knowledge.
