We have a fabulous on-site opportunity for a passionate PR Account Director to work on the Corporate client portfolio at a newly launched consultancy in Cape Town (part of a large international agency group that also has established offices making waves in Joburg). We’re looking for someone who is proficient across disciplines and understands how the Agency makes and manages money, can engage with senior clients to drive proactive opportunities on the business. The ideal candidate has mastered the art of removing stress and anxiety in your team by managing the workload, instilling best practice operationally, and keeping your teams motivated, inspired and supported. As Account Director, senior clients value your input on their business and see you as a strategic planner. You can identify & drive initiatives with clients and are seen to add value beyond just the day to day running of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Inspiring great work by partnering with teams to achieve results and work, lead to not just get work out, but make sure it’s the best it can be
  • Full project management responsibility (incl forward planning and management of risks), accountable for delivery and management of client calendar
  • Write communication plans
  • Responsible for CE’s and WIP recons
  • Accurate forecasting and billing of the account

  • Project Management: Act as the lead client contact for always-on work, campaigns, ensuring successful briefing, project management and forward planning. Is accountable for delivery and achievement of client KPIs. Understand what has been committed to strategically and can successfully operationalise work. Has a clear understanding of agency process, and is able to ensure that, in partnership with all teams, the job is delivered on brief, on time & on budget
  • Client Management: Has the trust and confidence from clients to lead projects and take briefs and manage client presentations without senior involvement. Proactively identifies opportunities to build on & grow the client relationship – to surprise & delight – beyond the day-to-day.   • Creative Management: Has a holistic overview of all work across various teams, disciplines and periods, the Account Director ensures for consistent alignment in all the work produced. Is accountable for quality control and has a keen eye for detail. Is deadline focused and carefully manages client expectations. Is creative in problem solving and looks for fresh and innovative ways to being the client briefs to life. Is not an order taker. Is able to spot creative opportunities and push for better work in partnership with the team. Is proactive.
  • Strategy Management: Understands the client strategy and how communications are effective in delivering on its objectives. Is a counsellor and partner. Successfully develops his/her own plans and manages this with clients independently. Contributes to strategy development. Has excellent and proven media and influencer relationships. Understands and can develop content strategy. Is up to date on current affairs and news.
  • Financial Management: Understands client revenue targets. understands and is accountable for delivery of scope of work (and where work is out of scope). Manages client budget and forecasting. Is responsible for ensuring the team charges for work correctly on Cost Estimates and ensures the necessary “checks and balances” are in place to drive seamless financial administration of the account. In addition, must be able to draft proposals and fees (for sign-off by the BD or GAD). Duties include: Thorough Account Recons every quarter and submitting summary, recon reports to the GAD and BD. Monthly billing of client retainers and OOS CE’s on time, manages advance payments with clients where upfront payments are required; responsible for sign-off on CE’s and steering WIP meetings
  • People Management: Responsible for managing the workload between the AE and AM, as well as ensure the juniors are motivated and inspired. The AD must continuously seek to give feedback on their performance (formally at least once every quarter) and ensure sufficient training initiatives are undertaken to improve core skills of the junior team (e.g., writing of briefs).

The successful candidate must have/be:

  • Relevant Diploma/Degree
  • 6+ years’ PR agency experience
  • Media contacts
  • Able to spot additional opportunities, organic growth
  • Project management experience
  • Able to engage comfortably with senior clients
  • Can present and sell work on their own
  • Proactive thought leader
  • Understands client industry and business.
